Branches and bark make tonic when boiled. Drink at least two cups a day for colds, tuberculosis and laryngitis. The sap or gum from the inner bark can be used to treat mouth sores. The bark is taken off the tree, the sap or gum is scraped. This is then boiled in water for 5 minutes. If for infants and children dip cloth into solution and proceed. This is normally found in more northern, rocky and acidic areas like Cape Breton and Newfoundland.
